Bigger Lika ?

Post  killjoy on Tue 08 Nov 2011, 11:17 am

There was talk of introducing a larger 4 seater Lika. Looking at the picture of the move there seems to be two steam cars in build but they don't look like what I would have expected the bigger Lika to be ~ more like the Stanley that was also mentioned.

What is in the pipe line ?

Here is the frame stretch 20" added with new reach rods, The old ones were bent.

welded extra support to keep body in alignment

Cut body in two sections using die grinder with a thin grinding wheel

The rear section is where the 20" will be added.

A insert will go inside the lower 1" by 2" rect tube as shown here. This will be done to help align the new back section. It will be welded

All the  body steel will be welded except in key locations for future service. This is done to reduce flex and  any bolts loosening. What was found upon the rebuild was many loose bolts from road vibration. Engine looks different, Found a 1901 mason rebuilt and installed.
More to come as the project moves forward.

The two vehicles on the forum pictures of the Steam Traction World move are a private project by Steve and were thought of as a project but are turning out too complex and expensive.

Steve's 20HP Stanleys were discussed in depth in this topic.

I had hoped there would be some enthusiasm for a slightly larger steam car kit when I started this topic, but nobody seems to care much for the idea.  Crying or Very sad

The new longer body was finished today. The 20" stretch was welded to add rigidity. The body was assy on the chassis. the next item is the in/out box.
