just to say we have found a couple of problems with the valve gear kit Embarassed

number one, it would appear that the valve spindle has the ability to travel deeper into the weigh-shaft bracket than intended. with the lock nut in place this could cause a bit off a mess...

we have made a spacer to solve this. please dont try to add length to the valve rods as apparently this will mess up the geometry !!!

number two, it seems the key-way on the weigh-shaft is too deep. we are making a new key to solve this.

these parts will be sent out as soon as possible

Hi STW

I have fitted the spacers and can confirm. Problem solved. Everything wiggles and shimmies in the correct way and place. Just need to take it all apart again to plate / paint and remove the Right hand bearing casting shims. But think this can wait until the next kit that requires the crank removed anyway.

Head says yes. Body say NO! :-(

Does the right hand bearing casting have to come off? As I was going to pain my threads (Lynn, please provide photos so I can visualise).

Cheers,

Brian

Hi Brian

The 2 spacer for the end of the valve rods can be put on without the crank being moved. But I remember in the instructions that the crank may need to be taken off a couple more times for bits to be fitted.

When I first fitted my weightshaft and crossheads. The con-rods were off to the right of the bigends by 3mm. So I put the shims in as supplied by STW. Once I reset the weightshaft as it was 1mm too high on the HP side. This moved the con-rods into the correct location without shims. Hence my comment on removing them.

Hi Craig,

I appreciate you're all really busy now with the extra workload with orders, which is great news for all of us. I was just wondering if it was possible to post some pics on the updates as they have gone distinctly thing on the ground. I understand why but there is definatley something really enjoyable about seeing the parts being made that we are about to receive and fit to our engines.

I should imagine the water fittings kit will be about as fun to fit as the cleading kit was! No doubt previous builders of other 4" models will be able to enlighten us as to whether that's true or not!!!

Be fantastic to get two kits before Xmas Shocked Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy What a Face Shocked

cheers

Rick
