Brass Chimney Collar

Post  MrStationHouse on Thu Aug 18, 2011 6:46 pm

Hi All,

quick question - have people put the top of the chimney collar at the same level as the top of the chimney or slightly below. I have seen a few set slightly below and wondered what the concensus was.

With best wishes
Simon

Thanks Lynn,

getting it ready for polishing is a fun and time consuming job isn't it - but the effort is well rewarded with a lovelly shine.

Polishing wheel

Post  lynnr on Thu Aug 18, 2011 7:40 pm

Hi

I use a wheel for polishing. Nice kit from Frost. http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-polishing-tools/heavy-duty-polishing-and-abrasive-kit.html
with the universal drill stand. Clamped to the edge of the workbench.

I marked each mop with its compound type so I do not cross contaminate. Took about 5 mins to get the brass to shine.

Yes I have a mop as well, what took the time for me was getting the spinning manufacturing marks out. Time conuming but does give a mirror finnish. I initially used wet and dry to get the worst of the marks out and then the polish wheels.

Mines on top too, seems to look odd with a bit sticking out especially as they are eye level.
