Hi All,
Well, "a big thank you to Lynn" for prompt printing service..... So, I've started on the canopy decorations!!

As usual, I'll let the pictures tell the story!!

There is no way I'm going to have to patience to do an amazing job like Tim has done on "Frederick", but thanks to Lynn's stencils, I should be able to get that "personnel look" on my engine.  Very Happy

While I'm on here, I did think of a gear guard to stop oil splashing everywhere (Kevster!!), but then, hey it's a Showman's, they don't do mess!! Twisted Evil

Regards,
Tony

Hi All,
With my usual "out of focus photography"  Embarassed , two more shots of progressing canopy decor:-

As I do this, I can't help but have respect for Tim's master piece, I'm finding it difficult enough just doing the simple stuff!! It's all so small & fiddly I can't seem to control the brush strokes accurately enough to do what Tim has done!!

Regards,
Tony

Maybe Tony, but it's looking jolly good! Your eye and hand will get used to it.
(I like the little steeple bit in the middle - very elegant.)

Hi Tony

Looking very very nice indeed.

Everyone has different abilities. You are doing the right thing! Work to how best you can do as I did without mucking it up and feeling very down. I feel very chuffed with my efforts on Crystal.

Oh in case I did not mention it.

Looking excellent.

... lynn, thanks to you especially, I'm delighted with how it's going!!

I actually managed a couple of evenings doing a bit more with Lynn's stencils, so herewith, as usual, out of focus photos of "The Lettering" going onto the canopy!!

I bought some small brushes & will have to practice my artwork technique before attempting to do 3D & shaddow effects... I'm tempted to leave as is, I think it looks good now, but I love what Tim has achieved with Frederick's canopy, however I "run the risk" of mucking it up & having to start again!! Decisions decisions!! Rolling Eyes

Regards,
Tony

Tony,Your engine is looking beautiful and the sign writing most professional. I can almost hear Northern Light from down under moaning that its about time she is brought to life with a fire in her belly and steam through her veins. Can't be long for the big day . I will be eagerly waiting for the first video clip to be posted. Kind regards Shane

Great work there Tony, does finish it off well, particularly the scrolls. Of course the good news is if its electrically powered then it doesnt need all those dirty rocks in it making everything mucky!!!!  Very Happy  Very Happy  Laughing  Laughing  Having just had two full days at Basingstoke with road runs and pulling demonstrations I can confirm Andys engines is well and truely "broken in" and has lots of lovely muck on it, lots of piss taking too I might add but lots of muck!!!! Video shortly.

Blocking & shadowing

Post  Tim Watson on Mon 14 Apr 2014, 8:41 am

Tony, on looking closely at your lettering, I think you'd be hard pushed to incorporate blocking and shadows as you need quite a bit of space between the letters (increased kerning) to accommodate these. I think a fairly small drop shading in red would look nice tho'
