Stanley steam car at STW

Post  miller on Wed 14 Apr 2010, 5:59 pm

got into the factory this morning to find this...

and why is it here? well, because of these...

Although Steve has been very quiet about this, he's actually in the process of building TWO of these things. A "not so little" project of his that he works on after we have all gone home. it's a bit like the elves and the shoemaker when you come in in the mornings.

although most people picture Steve as someone who is stuck behind a computer all day (which is actually quite true) he's also a very skilled "hands on" engineer as well. Anyone who has seen his "track engine" will agree with this. not my kind of thing but very impressive to see Cool

Hi Ian

The reg on the back of the model R is actually of my lorry which towed the car to our workshop.

I agree with Ian. I thought diesels were always dirty, noisy, smelly things. Laughing

Exactly, but what can you expect from a German inventor Laughing Laughing

Seriously though everything in it's place and that car is not the place for an old oil burner.

Steve is still making steady progress on his project, now working on the front hubs and axles.

look closely at the photos below and you may think that these parts have been made from castings. actually Steve is using a 3D CNC program which carves these parts out of solid material, im sure you've all seen the same sort of thing on TV. unfortunately each part takes hours instead of minutes so its not really suited to our high volume production. the main Axel is tube is... well just tube really Rolling Eyes ...
