Hi Jim,

Sorry cant help with the engine but I noticed your on the island, which bit you on as I live there also (well part time as I have to work on the mainland).

I live just up the road from what used to be Merstone station on the old IWCR line.

Hi,

I'm not too sure it looks like a free lance model to me, one thats been made up. but I might well be wrong!

that style of flywheel I think were used on road engines so there was no strobing effect to scare horse drawn vehicles on the road.

Hi
I've also heard that disc's were fitted to flywheels to stop the strobing effect on livestock.

Is this the reason why we drive on the left Question

apparently not...

In days of old logic dictated that when people passed each other on the road they should be in the best possible position to use their sword to protect themselves. As most people are right handed they therefore keep to their left. This practice was formalised in a Papal Edict by Pope Benefice around 1300AD who told all his pilgrims to keep to the left.

Nothing much changed until 1773 when an increase in horse traffic forced the UK Government to introduce the General Highways Act of 1773 which contained a keep left recommendation. This became a law as part of the Highways Bill in 1835.

I'm guessing most foreigners were left handed then??
