New cylinder block exhaust pipe

Post  Bryanh9904 on Thu 27 Sep 2018, 4:31 pm

Hi people

Has anyone one else had issues with the new cylinder blocks and exhaust pipe fittings?
Mine doesn’t line up at all. Will try to sort out uploading photos tonight.
Any thoughts??

As I remember, I had to remove a considerable amount at the bottom of the oval flange each side by the mounting holes, in order to clear two of the cylinder stud nuts, but that was all. It was a fair amount to remove.

Hi

First thing I notice.  You have triple thickness on the cleading. I trimmed mine so it is single.
Once the brass strap is tightened down on the spacers you should have enough space.

Also I think you have the brass band on top of the cylinder flange. You need to notch slightly so it fits between the flange and the brackets for the exciter dynamo. This will also give you the clearance needed.

The stud under the blast pipe flange is cut low with a half nut on it.

Here about half way down the page shows my banding in detail.

That's gonna leak like basket! The flange shouldn't be altered on the exhaust pipe, even with a gasket it'll leak. The studs need cutting down & a half nut fitted, there's enough fixings for the cylinder block but only two for the exhaust pipe. Also with mine the flange needed flattening off first as although it looked flat when fine wet & dry/ thin oil and a pane of glass were used it was anything but and I had dribbles when the engine worked hard which was annoying. Now its flat it's tight as a drum & no dribbles.

I echo Steve and Lynn's comments.

The studs under the flange holes need to be ground down to the height of a half nut and half nuts fitted.
you might want to get a replacement blast pipe as it looks like you have ground way to much off it off.

I had to slightly flatten the bottom edge underneath the flange just a smudge to get the holes to align.

Didn't use a gasket just a smear of graphite paste and tightened up good.

Never had any leaks or dribbles.
