4" Showman Dynamo

Post  Lynn@STW on Mon 12 Mar 2018, 10:01 am

Hi All

It may appear that nothing much has been happening with the Showman dynamo but work has been going on in the background.

On Friday Ian showed a prototype proof of concept of a dynamo using re-purposed parts and a very large rare earth magnet. The video below is the result. I do think Ian needs good praise and a big pat on the back for work done.

Please remember it is still a work in progress but good progress. The workings of the dynamo will fit within the existing main dynamo casting. This makes production simpler and may even be offered as a purchase replacement for existing Showman drivers.

The specifications as it stands. Around 22 amps at 900 rpm (The bulbs shown here are fewer than the showman but much higher wattage) This being on par with existing dynamo output. Voltage still needs a little work but that is "Dyno Mark2" activity.

Handy, if I had a showmans I'd be tempted to add a set of quick release power take off terminals for say ............. charging your leisure battery on ones van, caravan etc when on the rally field Very Happy although it might need a bit of regulation added to avoid over charging the battery but a fairly simple affair to add.

To charge a "Car" style battery you need 14ish volts but I like your thought.

Hi All

Just to let you all know. The work on the dynamo is still ongoing. I am currently sourcing supply of Neodymium magnets with a high flux force to trial in the dynamo V0.2. We are aiming for 12 volts DC at 600 to 700 rpm with around 25 amperes. Not quite the "flux capacitor" but close.

As said before we would prefer to get the design 100% right before releasing in to the wild. So please be patient.
