Fitting DCC seat frame to SCC

Post  Jim the Shovel on Sat 09 Sep 2017, 11:37 pm

I wanted to fit my spung solo motorcycle seat to the seat frame
but SCC frame supplied wasn't really up to the job.
I then saw a picture that Lynn posted with a pile of DCC frames.
Thought that could well be just to job. So PM to Lynn and she had
a measure up and basically the top member needed lowering 2".
So I purchased a DCC frame and following are the modifications I carried out.

Top member ends cropped and lowered 55mm. I put some car door 'U' shaped
edge trim over the top of the bunker. Fits a treat.

Rectangular seat frame with fittings for the seat was made to sit on the DCC frame.
The seat will be adjustable forward and back

The following pics are the seat fittings and thumb screws to lock the seat.

More mods to come. The towing lug is now too high and the hole centres in the
lower brackets are wrong so will have to be changed. I shall also be doing something
a little bit different with the foot rest. Watch this space.

Here we go, hours of fun today making foot rest.

Foot rest being tacked up.

1" round tube split and spigot inserted.
3/4" square tube also split. This will be inserted into the 1" box section frame.

Trial fitting.

As the foot rest fits into the box section frame it can be turned through 90 and by swapping the two ends over there are two more positions.

Just spotted my 6mm tap in the tray. Been looking everywhere for that. Need it for the thumb screws.

Hi Jim

Your seat is a work or art and looks really comfortable especially with the suspension. Have you tried it for reach and height? just make sure that you can reach all the controls and fire.

Cheers

I've only tried the seat on a bike. Took some getting used to, but was ok.
I haven't tried it on the engine yet. The engine is at the moment on a bench which is on axle stands.
Think it's all now getting a bit heavy and it's time to lower it back to the floor. I'll then be able to try it out.
I think it should be ok with the adjustment it has. 4" forward and back.
My only worry is my legs and getting cramp. Cross that bridge when it comes.
