Post Office red

Post  parador on Sun 26 Feb 2017, 8:13 am

I am thinking of using Craftmaster Post Office red for the inside of the motion works etc. Has anyone done the same and could post a picture or a link please of what it looks like. My wheels will also be PO red and I am unsure whether a different red, say Alfa Red would be better for the motion.

Thanks
Martin

I've used post office red on several miniatures and full size. Its a nice full red. No photos to hand but I recommend that colour.

Hi Martin,

I looked at the different reds for mine and chose the Alpha red. As I remember the Post Office red is a little brighter. I am going for the Ex Mayor colour scheme and thought that Alpha was a closer match.

Not the best picture but hope it helps.

I think that it is down to personal preference in the end.

Ex mayors crank, footplate, pump and back head are all painted with Craftmaster Post Office Red.

I have just spoken to the chap that last painted it.

Hope this helps

I'm Post office red as well, but don't worry it's looking great.  Keep up the good work,it's looking lovely. Post office red in the sun looks a bit bright.

Thanks for the replies.  Think I will go with the PO red.

On another topic what does everyone do with painting the nuts and bolts.  Paint after assembly with a brush or paint before.  Do they each need a coat of primer, undercoat and gloss? Evil or Very Mad

its been a bit of a mixture for me.  Where I have assembled befor painting as been at the same time.  Those which have been painted and fitted I started painting with a small brush.  THEN STOPPED.

The reason I was finding that if I had to remove the parts again I was damaging the paint. My suggestion would be to paint them at the end and then you need only do those on show.  That's certainly what I done on the showman's and will be doing on the roller.

You will need to undercoat as a minimum and I've primed as well. The blue I'm using, and I suspect the red and others won't cover bare metal well.
