Rubber tyres for 2 inch Burrell

Post  steamlaser on Thu 09 Feb 2017, 9:12 am

I have come to the stage of putting the rubber tyres on the front and rear rims.
The rubbers for the front wheels have been pre cut to leave a 60 mm Gap
The Rubber for the rear Wheels have been pre cut to leave a 80mm gap
Are these the correct gaps?
I have been told that normal super glue will not be strong enough to bond the ends togeather. Can anybody please me advise me on a suitable glue to use?
Many thanks!

I just used a high strength superglue from ebay. The spacing on the rear wheels is around 5mm at the edges of the rims, that will set the centre gap. I hope thats of some help. Mike

I used normal superglue on my traction wagons and they have done a many hundreds of miles with loads in them and the joint has not split.

Tyres for front and back wheels

Post  steamlaser on Thu 09 Feb 2017, 11:31 am

Thanks for the rapid response!
When the supplied ,unjoined tyres are offered up to the rims there are currently a 60 mm gap on the smaller wheel and a 80mm gap on the larger one. Is this correct?
When the ends are joined it will be a struggle to get completed tyres on the rims. There will be a great strain put on the bonded joints. Will the glue cope with the degree of stretch required?
Thanks

Just make sure the ends are clean and slightly roughened, use a good quality super glue gel and leave them alone once they are set.
You will be surprised how much they stretch, especially if they are warm, i left mine on the radiator for a couple of hours before fitting.
Good Luck

I agree, they will stretch, especially with the isoflex.

They do need warming for a good couple of hours before fitting or they will not stretch sufficiently (radiator is best source of gentle heat)
It also helps to do the job in a warm environment while wearing disposable overalls, or really old clothes as its a mucky job.
Petrol is a dangerous but efficient solvent for cleaning up afterwards (outside maybe).

To help stretch them on use cable ties to strap them to the rims as you work round it and stretch them on.  You'll need good strong ones or double them up as thinner ones will break.

Someone's posted this method a few years ago, can't find it at the moment, but I followed this on my water bowser and it worked a treat. I used isofix to stick them to the rims which helps also to slide them on.
