Theft. 2" Wagon

Post  IanR on Sun 31 Jan 2016, 7:37 am

On going to our lock up garage today, I discovered it had been entered and my ride on wagon has been stolen. This will have taken place some time since New-Year. Very upsetting given the work that's gone into it and the cost of the kits. And I never even got to sue it!

I know it's a long shot but just in case anyone is offered one here is a picture of it.

Thanks
Ian

Well, apparently my insurance company consider the wagon to be 'part of a motor vehicle' and is therefore not covered by my household policy. I would never have thought of a 2" scale wagon as a motor vehicle. So now I have to make sure the engine I'm building is insured separately.

It's a trailer & therefore should have the same status as a wheel barrow as far as the insurance is concerned!!..The engine is the "motor vehicle".. That's My view anyway!! I think it's worth pursuing your insurers, as they'll try anything to "get out of paying out"!! That's a lot of time & money tied up there & provided Your lock-up garage is covered on house contents, they should be made to cough up!! Bastards!!

I'm very sorry You experienced this theft.. I know exactly how You feel, as I have had "stuff" nicked, unfortunately I wasn't covered because it happened outside My property!

Regards,
Tony

Sorry to hear about this, makes me really angry Mad

As for insurance you do have to be very careful, insurance companies will do their very best to wriggle out of stuff, I would advise looking at specialist companies for anthing steam, like Walker Midgley etc. If you are looking to have anything like this on your home insurance check the small print, many have a maximum on any individual item, if the item is more than this it wont be covered unless you specify it.
We now have half a dozen or so items itemised, todate this hasnt effected the premium but I suspect it will in the end as I add more, but at least it means we're covered Cool

It does seem like yours are trying to wriggle out of this one, however read all your small print first or ask them where it says in the T&C the model trailer (as this is what it truely is) isnt covered.
If you dont get anywhere at Customer Service level go to Director level next, if you are still not happy with the out come then its ombudsman time
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
The key is give the insurance company plenty of chances and be realistic in what you are claiming for as this will all help when you have to go to the ombudsman.

Hope that helps

I had a call from the insurance company last night in response to my letter. They've agreed to pay the claim in full. So at least that's a bit of good news. Can now get on to STW to see about getting replacement kits.

That's the way I'm having to look at it. And after doing it once I should be able to improve on it second time around!
