Winch locking bolt

Post  MrStationHouse on Sat 21 Feb 2015, 9:30 am

Hi All

I am fitting the winch, in the instructions Steve talks about if you put a rope on it is a good idea to drill catch to secure it. Before I drill it I wanted to check presumably he means with the catch holding the engaging tab out?

What happens in normal operations does the winch rotate with diff ? If so why does it matter whether the tab is in or out as long as the rope is secure?

As you can see I can't quite get my head around how it all works!

Hi ho.

My winch is bungled round the drum. Steves instructions are in relation to "prototype" where the end is lashed to the farelead. The worry is that if the outside end is attached to the tender and the drum dog drops in it will rip off the farelead.

My drum by virtue of the cable being only on the drum I leave the dog out and the drum picks it's own rotation if it wants to.

On the lever I put a crease on the lever and chamfered the edge. Then on the lever I notched so the hold up tab has a lock point.

It has never dropped by itself in the last 3 years of running.

Half way down Here
