December Production photos...

Post  craig@STW on Sat 06 Dec 2014, 9:46 am

photos from this weeks work...

showmans boiler barrels multiplying slowly...

SCC belly tank kit nearly ready...

6inch foden regulator levers finished...

and fitted to the control model...

6inch rear wheel retainers...

and main sprockets...

4inch foden gear selector lever...

adjuster block....

and beading...

and these are the SCC "test cylinders", and yes, that does mean they are likely to end up being chopped into pieces !!
the reason for these is to prove the casting and it does not mean we will be starting production on them just yet.
Steve has asked me to point out that we should have received these about three months ago, so as you can see, we are always relying on our suppliers getting things to us on time.

I hope you have more success with these cylinder castings than you seem to have had with the DDC castings Sad .

Great to see the initial cylinder castings for the SCC! Would be great to see them after you have cut them up as well. Thanks for posting as always Craig.

Re: December Production photos...

OK, the last photos for this year. just to explain that there were no photos at the end of last week cos i've been off with a winter flu bug thingy Sad

first up... the DCC cylinder block tested to destruction. this may seem like a bit of a waste but hopefully the photo below will explain why we need to do it. out of the four test castings we have had one reject....

now looking at the small steam channels you can see how this would be unacceptable. and would be very hard to see without cutting things up.

these show how it should look. quite a simple design compared to some...

continuing with the 2inch cylinder blocks. the main shape is now done and its quite straight forward form here. just takes time...

also started to shape out the 2inch front axles...

and then we have the main rear axle parts for the latest batch of 6inch fodens...

so that's it for this year. production will continue on Monday 5th of Jan.

till then happy Christmas from all in production santa

Thanks for posting the cylinder photos Craig - very interesting! I can't see any ports/channels for the high pressure so are these to be machined in whereas the LP ones are cast in?

Merry Christmas to you and everyone else there Smile
