the weigh-shaft assembly needs drilling and pinning...

a lot of the parts are already packed...

Interesting as always Craig.

Is that the 6" Foden boiler on the bench? Interested to see more photos of how the boiler components come together if possible.

i think the boiler is a showmans, but not 100% sure. i know its NOT a 6inch foden. i'll try and get more pics of the boilers as and when they are made.

not sure when the kit will be going, the main thing now is drilling the taper pin holes in the weigh-shafts and this takes a bit of time as they have to be reamed out and we like to take it steady with the reamers. could be ready this week ?? maybe Ian can tell you more when he spots this.

this weeks photos.

first up is the 6inch foden weigh-shaft assembly. after waiting all week for the taper pins to arrive i finally started these today.
first op is the single arm on the end of the shaft.

its not easy to see but this jig holds the arm and shaft in position as the taper is drilled...

and im just setting up the second op, this will drill and pin the other two arms at 90 degrees to the first one...

more six inch foden parts, the regulator bracket...

and the 3 way cock arm and handle end...

4 inch foden water pump eccentric straps bored out on the lathe...

4inch foden bearing end cap...

first op on the 2inch burrell front Axel...

and i've made a start on the 2 inch burrell cylinder blocks. the first op takes 50 minutes and mills the saddle and bore at the same time...

and the laser cut parts for the SCC belly tank have arrived...

Have to say it's awesome seeing a 2" cylinder block appearing out of a solid block of cast iron. State of the art technology producing the technology of over a 100 years ago!!  Something rather nice about that, almost a tribute to our heritage I guess!!

Tony

I've been drilling a few 4inch burrel rear wheels...

and the SCC belly tank kit is progressing nicely...

something else worth a look. does everyone remember Steve's steam cars ????

well most of the main fabrication is finished and the parts are slowly being powder coated and final assembly is under way. last weekend saw the first of the bodies and chassis coming together. they now spent most of their time under cover, due to the very expensive leather seats, but here are a couple of teaser photos...

Those Stanley steam cars are unbelievably magnificent, you have to see them for real to appreciate the engineering skill that has gone into them & the finish is to match, Rolls Royce quality without a doubt...... Amazing job Steve!!

The cars have certainly come a long way since I visited the factory.

Tony

I saw these in September or October, I forget when as we went to Bedfordshire three time in a few weeks. They look better in the metal, an outstanding job is being done by Steve on these, the owner of one of them was at Dorset on the stand when I was there and he is suitably impressed too. I hope I get an invite to the champagne and caviar unveiling ceremony as its the least they deserve.

Top drawer work Steve as always.
