Crystal is chuffed.

She passed her steam test easily as normal. Had to do the MOT exempt paperwork V511. No problem getting her tax for another year.

Good news Lynn, is this the first time you've done your tax on the new system, I'm hoping next year I'll be able to do mine back on-line.

There be a big hole.

Think I may have found the clunk. The bearing is loose. So shrunk down and refitted.

Getting there.

Now to refit everything.

Hi Tony.

High and dry up here. Does help with being 350 ft above sea level and literally down hill all the way to the sea.
The land drain behind us is running well. We have part of the run away pipe work under the drive with Roding points beside the garage so can here it gurgle.

Crystals home is very dry also.

Got out for a little while this evening.

Flywheel attached and another clunk removed. Flywheel key way was slack. So shimmed it out and all is good.

Just need to remove the right hand wheel and 2nd shaft gear set to get the crank gears back on.

Me forgot to put 2nd and 3rd gear on the crank before dropping it back in.

Progress today. Got a hour in the garage.

2nd shaft gear cluster removed. Oh boy! I forgot how heavy that is.

Gears added to the crank and everything going back together.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2

A few things were contributing to clunking noises.

Flywheel keyway was a bit loose on the crank. So shimmed out and is now tight.
Gear change side of crank bearing bit loose. Now tightened up and smooth.
Expansion link die blocks need replacing as also slightly too loose.

The problem was I dropped the crank in but forgot to put 3rd and 2nd gears on before doing so. Hence the requirement to remove the right hand side wheel, gear guard and 2nd shaft gear cluster so I could simply slip the gears on the crank. Did not want to remove the crank again as all settled in with everything loctighted up.

I have cut some groves into my bearing cases to aid oil to get where it needs to be.
Im not convinced the bearing gets fully lubricated without them.

I am not worried. All bearings are showing good. No problems except the crank gear side which was shimmed after lapping to allow the gears a looser meshing. So might have been the hard stop moved the housing a bit.

Yes Mike.

Had Crystal out today. Wake up, fill up and out for a 10 mile run.
Yes Priscilla was sadly sitting watching as she is not allowed out in public yet in steam.

Now to clean up and get ready to head to Dundee on Saturday for the transport museum steam weekend.
