Cheap & effective firing pipe

Post  Tim Watson on Tue 15 Apr 2014, 9:49 am

I have previously used the rooftop extension pipe for firing 'Frederick' whilst 'Madeline' had a rather heavy six foot stove pipe to help raise the draft. I have just gone over to using a carpet roll tube, as I have seen these being used on the rally field. They come in 4m lengths and are made of stout cardboard, fitting the chimney top very well. I cut my one into two: they are said to last a season. The advantage is that they are light and do not produce a plug of condensed cold air in the firing chimney on a damp morning.

The other advantage is that my one cost 0 from the local Carpetright warehouse.

Firing tube

Great idea Tim, my original STW supplied tube has just about rusted out and I was wondering what to do next!
