My Xmas present

Post  highpressure on Fri 24 Jan 2014, 10:04 am

After being given a sum by my Dad for xmas and not wanting to spend it on mundane crap I have just purchased my new number plate!!!! cheers cheers  Having seen the discussions on here I checked the number and direct from DVLA it was £250 inc VAT and transfer which I thought was great value. Sadly it cant go on the engine which is a real shame but it can go on the works van ( which I own ) and which always tows the trailer.

KC 57EAM is the new reg.  Cool Cool I'll post a picture when it is finalised

Good choice, and far better to go direct than line the pockets of someone else.   Very Happy

Will have to park next to you for a group shot when in steam.

Just as a quick update on the xmas present situation my mum bought me two Reilang oil can which I have since had black nickel plated and then engraved to discourage light fingers at rallies. Very happy with the outcome.

The new plates have arrived and the transfer is currently being processed. Very happy with these.

New reg now fitted

Post  highpressure on Mon 24 Feb 2014, 10:33 am

The letter from the DVLA arrived at the weekend with the new tax disc so the plates are on  cheers cheers cheers

Ping for Lynn. I would like a traction engine sticker to go on the back of the van with the plate, something like the NTET logo. Are you able to cut out a couple for me with your cutter device?? No bigger than an A5 postcard, either in black or red vinyl?? Thanks

Hi Lynn,

A little less space than I first thought so I would probably go for two about the size of a credit card outline and two no bigger than a postcard all in black then I can see whihc best suits the van and use the others for the trailer sides.

Finally fitted to the van after having to sort out the scars from having reversed into the engine trailer numerous times  Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Embarassed I need a rear view camera!! I still need to address the other door but need a new Checkatrade sticker before I get stuck in. Several freinds have commented which brings a smile to my face and makes me think of dad which is nice, the Twat at the wholesalers asked why it said KC's team but he is a knob and he was probably trying to wind me up which succeded!!!

Must admit that does look good, although a couple of things that I'd be concerned about which are, I cant see a supplier mark on the plate (although it might be on the bottom right) and also watch out as shifting the numbers up to the right hand letters like that could attract PC plod  Rolling Eyes , I've had one encounter with them on this issue before now and was told in no uncertain terms (along with a 14 day notice) to get new ones made up correctly  Mad

Just as a word of caution

I am well aware of the potential issues surrounding spacing, however EVERY day I see other vehicles drive past me with spaced plates so I figure if they can so can I. I have the correctly spaced one in the back of the van in the event of being questioned and for the MOT.

Kev, looks good. What's the reason you can't have it on the engine? Not trying to be nosey, just wondering if there I'd some restriction I am not aware of?

You can only assign it to a new engine at first registration as plates can only be transferred to MOT valid vehicles. If I had purchased and held it on retention I could have requested it when HM was registered but I didnt know that so it cant be done now. Next best thing is the van that comes to all the rallies with the Ifor trailer the engine is in. Anyone who wants to follow suit pay attention and get the plate before in readiness for the road registration.

Am I right then, as long as you have it on retention you can put it onto the miniature at first registration.

Re: My Xmas present

Post  bjwlancashire on Mon 24 Mar 2014, 9:58 am

Reminds me of my motorcycling days, only with much smaller plates too. I got pulled after 18 months owning the same bike with the same small plate and told to change it in 7 days - I was selling it three days later so left it as it was. Funny thing was I got stopped for speeding by a copper 12 months previous to that but for speeding and he never said a thing about the tiny plate. Not all coppers are as smart as SONIC!!!! Twisted Evil

I have a few, I am just a bit thick when it comes to electronics installation. I also have a video mirror to use with it, very cool!! I am sure we could sort something out if your coming up here in May.

RF 57EAM has been on retention for 12 months, and I've just renewed for a further 3 years. I forget what the cost was for this but I hope to be finished and have it on the engine before it runs out again.
