showman distribution board

Post  Brian M on Sun 05 Jan 2014, 10:42 am

Hi All,

Having followed the instructions from STW on the installation of the wiring, I still can not get the AMP and Volt meters to work. Has anybody else had the same issue? If so, what has been the resolution?

Thanks,

Brian

Go back to basic.

When you wiggle the dynamo do you feel resistance? If not there is a break some place as you are not getting a load. You should see the meters move when you wiggle the dynamo

With the cable from the dynamo shorted to its self. Do you get resistance when turning the pulley? If not you have a problem with the dynamo.

Check the volt meter with a known good small battery. Do you get a deflection. You can do the same on the amp meter as it is just a volt meter with a resistive shunt. Just flick the terminals with a battery. Not for long as you may over drive the meter.

Are you 100% on the wiring? I found I had to revers the feed wires from the dynamo as when running on the belt it was producing negative volts.

Has any of the pre made cables been crimped on the insulation by mistake?

Just a few suggestions.

Good luck Brian, problems with electronics can be frustrating but rewarding when you find the problem.

Cheers Rob!

I will give a few of Lynn's suggestions a go (thanks Lynn) as I have already tried a few.

No worries. If I was closer I would just pop over with being a qualified electrical and electronics engineer.
