What spec steels

Post  hudmut on Tue 22 Oct 2013, 3:23 am

This one is more for Craig than any body but what spec steel is used on the engines, I want to make new rear wheel spacer on my agricultural engine to take out some side play that is driving me mad as well as a few other bits. Iv found that what ever steel it is machines nice and with very quick clean up. Im pretty sure its not EN1A can any body inform me ?

Could be EN1A leaded which is very free-cutting.

The majority of steels tend to be EN3 or EN8.

EN3 tends to be for any non stressed item as it's a low carbon steel and EN8 tends to be used foe anything under stress or where surface finish is important.

Not relevant but the 6" Foden rear axles are EN24T which is a chrome moly steel.
