Setting Top Ball Lift in the Water Pump

Post  Rodd Perrin on Thu 13 Jun 2013, 10:06 pm

Hi There,

I am currently completing the water pump (Kit 21) and have stuck a slight hurdle.

When I pop the 4 washers on the brass screw that will limit the lift of the top ball, the screw bottoms out before tightening up on the washers.

Cannot really deepen the hole in the top ‘plate’ as it is pretty much at maximum depth now, so I will need to shorten the screw……

So – Do I set the height for the top of the screw from a reference point (similar approach to limiting ball lift in the check valves) or do I simply shorten the screw so it tightens up on the four washers?

Regards,

Rodd

Hi

You need to, without the washers, bottom the screw on top of the ball. Then wind the screw back 1mm. Measure the length and pack that length with washers. This will set the lift. You don't need or most likely not use all the washers as more than enough is supplied. Remember to measure with your gasket in place. If your screw is too long. File it down to fit.

Hi Lynn,

Thanks for the advice Smile
All fixed now to give a ball lift of 1 mm and with a washer to spare!
