Its around the 33 litres mark, when we tested Andys a few weeks ago we didnt collect and measure it as we empitied it but we put in a full 25 litre drum and then approx 1/3 again or about 8 litres. That was a road loco though.

Just as a matter of interest I was discussing with Andy and the guys who did this years test that we were toying with having an independant inspector for next year for both me a Andys test to get a 10 year hydro ticket then get the club to do the hot test, turns out you cant mix and match!! If you use an independant for the first you need him to do the hot each year at whatever his cost is rather than the 5 my club charges but it has to be done every two years after the first one expires.

Hi Kev,

That's an interesting point, I have a 10 year hydraulic ticket and a 14 month hot test certificate. This was done by an independent with a 14 month ticket costing around 60 mark depending how many engines the inspector looks at during the day. Brian M may have to get his two tickets as a solo activity and that could cost around 150 plus (saying that it takes 3 hours to do).

Best regards,

Dwain

Assuming your club is subjected to the boiler test code, the green book, they cannot charge you for testing. Article 4.7 'Boiler inspectors undertake this duty on a voluntary non-commercial basis. They or their club or society shall (shall = mandatory) not charge for examination, testing of certification....' If they are charging you, then Southern Fed or Northern Association need to be informed, as all the boiler certs they've charged for are invalid. Rugby used to ask for a 2 donation to cover admin costs, and I nearly gave the Northern secretary a heart attack when I inadvertently called it 'charging'.

If they are not a party to the green book then I'll shut up....
