A quick video to show the twisting of the brass bar for the showmans roof struts. one end of the bar is held in the chuck of the lathe and the other end in the tool holder. the chuck is then rotated seven times to achieve the twist...

you can see the bar after the first twisting on the left of this photo, the one on the right has had a second twist to get a much tighter coil, this is how they will all look when finished

Further to Craigs post showing the brass twisting; shortly after the video was taken we worked out a simple way of keeping the brass straight. Surprisingly, the 1.5m lengths of brass expanded during the twisting process by about 15mm. I would have though it would have shrunk! Shows how much I know.
