Burrell Road Loco and Showman's Kit 30A

Post  Steam Traction World on Fri 30 Nov 2012, 7:38 am

Hi All,

I was hoping to add some photo's of how the parts are progressing, however my phone camera is rubbish and I can't find my normal camera. Hopefully Craig has taken some pics and will upload them shortly.

Progress of this kit is coming on nicely. We are hopeful of being able to despatch Kit 30A to both the R/L and Showman's customers around Wednesday of next week.

This kit will contain:

Set of Star Fingers
Motion Plates
Motion Ring
Beading
Tow Pins
Shovel & Poker
Oiler Tubes & Screws etc
Seat Frame/Base and Footrest Extensions
plus other things

I will add progress of the next Kit on a seperate posting.

All the best

Dean

Hoping Monday for the majority with a few maybe going on Tuesday. Ended up having 4 people off on Monday, 3 on Tuesday, 3 on Wednesday and so it continued. Just can't plan for things like that so sorry for the delay.

This kit looks nice, not a lot of stuff but cosmetic bits which I really enjoy. Will be dropping off a lot of bits at the powder coaters and platers tomorrow, then looking forward to getting a few lines on!! Very pleased to see the seat design has been revised to take into account feedback on here and now has a "clip" to attach the to the top of the bunker and then locate the pins at the strap. Takes a lot of turning force off the strap especially with two on board and means I dont have to modify anything to get it how I wanted it to be! Very Happy Very Happy

Seems hard to beleive that within the next week I will recieve the final kit Sad Almost exactly three years to the date of the first wheel Shocked but what an engine it has created and so pleased to have put EVERY single bolt and nut on at least twice and to have intimate knowledge of the entire beast. I have learnt so much this last three years and met some very good people. Perhaps that should be added to the sales leaflet as an additional bonus of the build. Shocked

Stating the obvious?

Post  Tim Watson on Thu 27 Dec 2012, 3:43 am

In the instructions for the RL builders who want a star on the RH side motion cover, it suggests using the LH side cover to act as a template for him drilling the RH side.

More explicitly, I would bolt the two together and run a drill through the LH cover at clearance for starting the holes in the RH, then separate the two and re drill the second side at full size for the star and ring fixing screws / bolts. This will maintain a very accurate hole spacing.

I didn't bolt them together but held with clamps and haven't had any issues but they do need to be accurate there is very little room for error if any at all. Lynn yours would have been not being a Road Loco!!!
