Filler recommendations

Post  iain on Mon 24 Sep 2012, 11:15 pm

Can anyone recommend a good filler? Just for taking pits etc out.

Just wondered if there was one better than the rest.

Hi

Any "bondo" car filler will work. I have used Isopon products over many years without issue for both body work and model boat making. Using different grades for different function. Even (not sure if you can still get it) a toothpaste consistency, cellulose paint filler works very well for filling craters in paintwork.

Just remember to be accurate on the catalyst. Too little and it will never set hard. Too much and it goes off too quick to work and can leave weak areas like strata. Get it correctly hard and it does not really make a difference on the make as it will all sand down well.

I was thinking of using TopStop on my Foden chassis rails - no experience of it, if it does what it says on the tin it should suit me. This ebay link gives a few likely candidates some of which don't appear to use a catalyst.

I like the idea of the 1k stuff. Think ill try some of that to start. Just need a few more consumables. Need to get the blast cabinet into the shed as well. Cool
