This self-servo action will make it a wonderful brake when facing forward downhill, but totally untrustworthy vice-versa. What I found was not pretty! The metal check valves had pounded out the backside of the seat to the point where it was a check valve in both directions! This was likely causing very high forces on the water pump pistons, which is probably why my cross heads are so worn. The fix is to machine the pumps to accept 3/8" nylon balls. I will be trying 2 new sets of standard pads over the next few weeks and see if this improves its braking. They are two grades harder then standard according to my local auto shop. So hopefully this will make the braking a bit better with a softer grade of shoe. It a easy mod just drill out the rivets fit new switch with two new m3 bolts and change the crimps to 1/4 wide ones. The hysterias has improved my boiler cuts out at 225 psi and back in at 190 now. With the new debouce circuit install after the stitch it all seams ok now. I made a small circuit that delays the inverter to turn off for 1 second this has stop my inverter going into a red light fault when driving it a round and ... I obtained it from our local central heating merchant, who had one in stock and it comes tested and calibrated to give approx 70 Kw of heat with a 2.0 gal/hour nozzle and fuel pressure and air balance already adjusted. I run it on 28 second central heating oil at 70p/litre (quite legal) and had an exta load delivered into a 45 gall oil drum next to where I keep the ... I found that steam was not entering the top of the left cylinder in forward, but was in reverse. Mystified, I thought the return crank had slipped (square peg in square hole turning into round peg in square hole). It hadn't, so I opened up the left steam chest and found the top lock nuts had come loose. so the valve rod was somehow driving the valve OK in reverse but not in forward. ...
