Hi all

I've had our waterpump working whilst the engine was in steam a couple of weeks ago.I only had 50psi on the gauge, this was because of leaks on the steamhead, but the pump worked fine. The tender was full when I started and about a quarter left at the end of steaming and running.I didn't have any flex problems like Northburrell suggested might happen, but then I didn't have that much pressure in the boiler. All in all I was quite happy with its performance.

Hi All,

The design for the 2" Driving Wagon is now well under way. We hope to update the forum with some pictures towards the end of next week as to how it is coming along.

Steve has already encorporated a way of easily pulling more than one wagon for those who wish to purchase two or more. (One for sitting on and one for carrying coal and water.)

We hope to be in a position to release a guide price by the end of the month.

Regards

Just a bit of useful info for anyone getting to this stage for what it's worth

1. Use etch primer on the whole tender, you'll need it for the brass trims so you might as well do the lot

2. Araldate the bottom step and bottom winch bracket bolts in so they protrude from the inside (as in full size) that way the lower winch bracket wont get in the way when spraying/lining. They are covered in the black pitch so should be protected and not leak

3. Make sure you fit the water pump ...

Hi All

I'm just doing the design for the 2" Burrells Lubricator and would appreciate any opinions you may have. My research shows that most scratch builders in this scale put a commercially available 1" square tank on their engines. This size seems to be the smallest available commercially unless you consider displacement lubricators.

The problem with the 1"quare ones is that they are far too big compared to the engine. I did draw one, but it just confirmed that they ...

Hi All.

Lilyjack asked for an explanation about our 2" Burrell Governor.

The purpose of a governor on full size engine is to maintain the speed of the engine regardless (within limits) of the load. Primarily this would have been when powering a circular saw or threshing drum.

They are notoriously difficult to get to fully operate in miniature even in 4" scale. They can easily be made to look as though they work, i.e. they spin round, as ours will, but to get them to ...

Hi everyone.

Have a look at the 2" Burrell Products Page on the main website. You can now download the full design. Well, as it was about a month ago!

Save the download to your desktop or where ever you prefer, but save it with the file extension .easm. You will need to have previously downloaded the eDrawings viewer. You should be able to see every part, do cross sections, hide parts, create perspective views etc.

We will update the file sometime next month with a newer version.

I have a question.

Is there any reason why the rear wheels cannot be vulcanised if the spokes and hubs are not yet fitted?

I have banded the inner n outers together and popped the outer band rivets in. It's just I'm thinking of doing the lining work on the rear spokes BEFORE fitting them this time and then "touching up" on the heels of the spokes once fitted.

Any help on this would be handy..

Thanks

Painted Horn plates and the 2 top bits seperately so will have to touch up bolts when I put them together

Painted front end, smoke box wheels etc

Painted block

I am now pondering at what stage to paint the cylinder cladding bound to get scratched but willl also tighten up when banding straps go on so will mark, can't paint it when straps are on cos it will be too fiddly to mask up straps. Bit of a catch 22 situation. Anyone got any advice?

For those who are in the process of fitting their cylinder block to boiler here's a hint. - Don't tighten down the 2 studs immediately infront of the holes for the drain cocks on the offside of the engine. when you have painted and lined the right hand cover of the cylinder in a later kit, you will need to fit this before fitting the drain cocks. The brass strip that fits below the drain cock valves has a very small screw holding it in place and you will have to remove the two studs to allow ...

Excentric straps and cams

i have noticed the excentric straps and cams bind when the straps are done up. is this because the inside surface on the straps is rough and needs a polish or do i need to use some shims between the two halves? has anyone else had a problem with these? do i have a set of unfinished straps or should i polish the inside surface. If the inside surface needs polishing can some one tell me the best way to do so.

making slow progress but will all look very nice when done!

Thanks in advance ...

Hi All,

A couple have things have been brought to our attention on kit 19.

Firstly the top slide bar has been tapped 5ba and the oiler we have sent has been threaded M4. The hole in the slide bar will require opening out to 3.3mm and retapping M4. If you have the capability to do this then please do so. If you would rather send it back for us to rectify then please return it and we will drill and tap it and return it straight away. Please remember to enclose you name and address.

Secondly, ...

Fire box doors.

I have found three problems with fitting the fire box doors.

1. the boiler boss for the water gauge extension B21228 is 1mm longer than the boss for the top fire door runner, and therefore, on tightening the screws, causes the runner to bend. I have spoken to Steve about this and it is OK to file down the boss to be level with the fire door boss.

2. The bottom fixing screws being countersunk in a slot are pushing the bottom runner up and tightening onto the bottom ...
