the foden finally made it out to it first show at abbey hill, all went very well and a great turn of speed was proved by the foden especially on the tarmac track around the show site!! here are a few videos and photos from the weekend. As you can see we have had to rework the Foden to make it look like the real thing. The work was carried out by Vincent engineering and Craig Henderson and i can say it goes like s**t of a shovel

Have a look at the Foden C Type Products Page on the main website. You can now download the full design, well almost the full one. Save the download to your desktop or where ever you prefer, but save it with the file extension .easm. You will need to have previously downloaded the eDrawings viewer. The cross section functionality seems to have been disabled but you should be able to see every part, move components, hide parts, create perspective views etc.

Hi All,

It has been brought our attention that there are the following issues where a recall is the best solution:

Issue number 1: The pressure gauge back plate has not been drilled to enable it to fit on to the plinth. Please remove the back plate and return it to us for drilling, alternatively if you have the capabilities you may wish to do this yourself.

Issue number 2: On the flywheel (originally supplied by MW's) no allowance was made for the water pump chain to clear the ...

The cylinder blocks are still running on our large CNC mill. There are only two drilling operations to complete and we will then be able to press the liners in place. We should be able to despatch the cylinders to the 12 customers who require them towards the later part of next week (before 13th March). A couple of photo's are below:

Having taken on the building of two models from STW and completed the build up of the Foden Chassis I am looking at painting options....

Obviously I want the finish to be both durable and good looking and have been thinking along the lines of having the major parts Powder Coated.

Has anyone gone this route on either the Foden or the burrell? If so any major pitfalls I should be aware of?

I have Sandblasting facilities here on site which should enable a good pre coating ...

Although it towed reasonally well I did notice that the front wheel mudguards tended to touch the front tyres which caused them to bend upwards.

I have now turned the front mounting brackets upside and fixed them to the chassis with a clearance of about 3mm between ...

I have at long last got my Foden on its wheels. It strikes me that all the weight is on the little wheels at the front as I can still lift the back. My question is what is an appropriate front tyre pressure? Embossed on the side of the tyre it indicates that the maximum pressure is 50psi. This seems high.

Hi Foden Builders,

It's difficult to give you an accurate date for the remaining parts for this kit to be delivered as we are waiting delivery of the gears from our supplier. Hopefully they won't be too much longer, as soon as we have a list of parts available to send and an idea of a realistic despatch date we'll put it on the the forum. In the meantime here's some photo's of some of the castings we've had delivered today.

Regards

Dean & Steve.

Hello my name is Stewart and i live in Torpoint in Cornwall and am interested in building the 4 1/2" scale Foden steam lorry as i love the haulage side of steam!

Is there any-one that could help me with information that would help me start the project? (help me get my foot on the ladder so to speak)

Has any-body got any close-up pictures of the cockpit and cylinder area as this would help with an idea of the lay-out?

Thank you for your response Stewart

I started to build a Modelworks Foden at the end of August 2007 and have received all the kits up to kit 18 and also kits 23 and 24. The only parts that I did not receive were the cylinder block and the crankshaft before MW went down.

Hopefully, in the near future, with the help of STW I will receive the missing parts which will enable me to complete all of the motion, valve gear etc and then move onto the remaining kits to achieve a fully working Foden model. In the meantime I am hoping ...

I have achieved an important milestone today by running my Foden on compressed air for the first time. Whilst setting up the valve gear I became suspicious that the instructions were wrong. It was a case of Deja vu as the cylinders were set to run in opposing directions just like my POP. I corrected this and made final adjustment to the valves, sealed the spare holes and connected my compressor. This video shows what happened.

As you can see the engine sprang into life as soon ...

I see from the post in the Burrell section that offers have started to go out for the Burrells. Please can you update us on how you are progressing with the Foden? Do you have a timescale for when you hope to get the offers out?
