The male input thread on my steam head just received in Kit 21 was considerably oversize. Having got it assembled on the spectacle plate and offered up to the steam pipe from the boiler the female fitting wouldn't even start on the thread. I took it off again and tried one of the fittings on one of the pipeworks in the kit with similar results, although it screwed on to one of the globe valve threads easily. I have tried to tighten up the union nut with a standard spanner by poking my hand through the hole in the tender top but can't tighten ... Any plans on updating the kits for the 4" Burrell on the ' online shop' ?

Previously it was easy to see what we could expect in the kits
before they arrived, but now we are at kit 17 we don't now what
we are getting until we open the box. ( Just like Christmas.)

Is there a recognised method for gland packing as I have tried three times to repack with more graphite yarn to find it makes absolutely no difference at all. It is impossible to tighten the glands in situ so the pump has to come off each time ( so far three and counting) and on the final try the packing was so tight I couldnt push the pump back up the ram, but it had no effect at ... It was easy to change & the holes were almost identical so only needed a little filing. I sealed the casting to the smokebox with clear builders silicone as before. This has lasted three years and the smokebox was rust free & shiney underneath the casting. It was easy to seperate as well. I'm giving 'Trelawney' a good clean this year (first time) so it should be pristine for next years rallies. I'm happy ... They have contacted me to tell me that they cannot use the original hydraulic test paperwork and that my club will need to do this test despite there being 1 year left before its required. I am okay with this as I was planning to bring all the dates for tests in line with the clubs testing dates, however, I am not sure how to prepare my ... The 50 boiler barrells for the 4" Burrell have now been delivered. We hope to start the preperation work (turning and bevelling) within the next couple of weeks. Below is a photo.

I have just opened my box of tyres kit 6 the instructions say 750ml primer & 750ml isoflex. I seem to have only 250ml of each, will this be enough as i dont want to get half way through and run out.

Has anyone else found the same? I believe my problem is caused by a build up of tar etc on the inside of the fire door which presses against the back of the boiler when the doors are opened. I have attend a few rallies this year where the coal has been far from ideal - very smoky with little heat. A temporary solution is to operate/force the doors to open a few times. Is there a simple fix other than completely removing the ...
